Writing Dynamic Help Wanted Ads,  How To Help Your Ad Get Attention

Note: We are going to assume that you know lying, making false claims, illegal statements and discriminatory actions in an advertisement will get you and your company into a lot of trouble and ruin your reputation.

****The Body Of Your Help Wanted Ad****

You had 4 -7 seconds to grab their attention with your headline and you did it! That was the hard part. Now is the time to create a desire to respond to your job opening and give easy instructions on how to do it. You can also politely push away the unqualified so your time won't be wasted.

Job seekers want to know more than your Job Title, Skills Required, Education and Experience.  They want to know about your company and some in-depth information about the job. Here is what people are really looking for.

  • Emotional Benefits: What are the emotional benefits of working at your company? The job seeker wants to know how it will feel to work in your place of business. Teamwork, supervisor support, valid training, growth opportunities, and appreciation are at the top of the list.
  • Establish your credibility; If your company is growing say so. If you have landed a new long term contract that makes it necessary for you to hire more people let the reader know this. Have you been an icon employer of the community for years? What makes the general public trust you? Put it in your ad. Let them know why you and your business is stable, growing, respected and trustworthy. Put it in such a way that you use the word you more than we.
  • Tangible Benefits: State the facts in plain language but don't say "we offer". Instead say, "You will have an excellent benefit package with choices of individual or family medical insurance. Your 401K will grow with our contribution to your account. Enjoy the results of your hard work with 10 days vacation and 7 paid holidays.

Dynamic words to use in the body of your ad include: You, your, security, challenge, exciting, reward, satisfaction, learn, opportunity.

Dynamic phrases include:"You'll enjoy the benefits selection"  "Take advantageof this opportunity now "  "Imagine yourself as part of a solid team"  "You can relate to supportive supervisors "  "We want you to grow"  "Your skills are important"  "Learn how with a full training program"

****Closing Your Ad****

The closing of your help wanted ad is very important.  Here is where you make it clear for the job seeker what they must do to connect with you. Direct them to an immediate response by saying Choose Today, Visit Now, etc. Always offer more than one way for contact and you will increase your response rate.

Example:

If you have what it takes your next step is to contact us. We want to hear from you. Choose one of the following today:

  • Email your cover letter and resume to hr@1233456.com
  • Mail your resume and cover letter to 404 Smith Road, Anywhere USA 12345

Please remember. We have hiring rules to follow. If your application is incomplete it can't be processed.
